Made of pottery (terra cotta) the lamp had a wick placed in it and oil poured in the bowl.
Solomon tells us that it was the woman’s job to keep the lamp from going out. If she did, she was a virtuous wife and worth more than rubies! (Proverbs 31:10-31)
